Managing Sales/Use Tax Risk on Construction Jobs in Pennsylvania and Beyond
March 24 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am
$25.00When margins are thin, unexpected costs can ruin your profitability, so how do you stay one step ahead? Hear from Michael Bannasch, CPA, RKL State and Local Tax Practice Leader, as he dispels the sales/use tax myths that plague the construction industry and helps you understand the law so that you don’t get blind-sided with common issues such as mischaracterizing a job’s exempt status or mismanaging an unexpected state audit. This session will compare sales/use tax issues in Pennsylvania to neighboring states and identify common pitfalls to avoid as you cross state lines in pursuit of jobs.
Topics that will be covered in this seminar:
- Exemption claims by customers
- Determination of real property contract vs. sale/install of personal property
- Tax status when purchasing job materials, tools & equipment, help supply services, and leasing equipment
- Bonus topics – Payroll taxes, income taxes, state licensing, etc. when doing jobs outside Pennsylvania
Who Should Attend:
Sales/use tax issues are often challenging or impossible to correct if contractors rely solely on their accounting team to address them. Therefore, in addition to CFOs, controllers, tax directors, and accounts payable staff, we encourage estimators, project managers and purchasing personnel to attend this session.
This seminar will be hosted by ABC Eastern PA Member RKL
